LITERARY FICTION

by Guy Hibbert

    Inspired by travel

I've been writing about France as a journalist for many years and more recently I have found the time to write fiction.

My debut novel, The Château of Illusions is a saga of two families and their ownership of a historic petit chateau in rural France. My main character is a strong, independent woman, a reluctant heroine of the French resistance movement. The novel is about her life and loves and her quest for redemption after some tragic events during the war. It is set in France and London from just before WW2 up to the 1980s.

Reviews of The Chateau of Illusions

"This book had a flow that placed it in the "I can't put it down category"

"If you’re seeking a can’t-put-down-til-done read, The Chateau of Illusions won’t disappoint. High recommendations for this book."

"Guy Hibbert is a wonderful writer. The character development is profound, the storyline fascinating and well-developed. Despite the number of disparate threads, they ultimately come together in what is both a heart wrenching and heartwarming story. It’s a multi-generational tale of human frailty, human strength and the true nature of love in all its guises."

"I haven’t read a book so feverishly in a long, long time."

"Just finished this extraordinary book - so colourful and full of emotions. The mystery of "The chateau of Illusion" forces you reading the book in one go....., loved it."

"While this story is fiction, it reads like a true family history. The story was so compelling, I could not put it down until I had reached its end !!"

"I enjoyed Chateau of Illusions tremendously. I read a lot of historical fiction, with WWII settings in France ad my favorite. Mr Hibbert’s book did not disappoint. His characters are strong and well-developed. I loved every page!"

In Paris Postcards I wanted to explore the mystique of Paris - how it has proved to be such a magnetic draw for romantics, artists, adventurers and lost souls. My characters answer the siren call of the city, but they don't always find what they set out to look for.
